Due for Wednesday: Use the document titled "Rough Draft Checklist" on the Resources page to look at a peer's work (please use the same peer you edited for your summer reading paper). Share your comments with your peer as well as with me on Google Docs. Due for Friday: 1. Read "Thank God for the Atom Bomb." 2. Write a 400 word response and share it with me on Google Docs: What is the main bias or argument of the essay? Is it compelling? How much weight do you give these claims? What parts of it were more convincing than others? Due for Monday: 1. Finish your Trend Story and submit via Turn It In. 2. Read Chapter 1 of Hiroshima. Be prepared to discuss the first sentence (especially in relation to the rest of the chapter). Due for Wednesday: Complete your short story. Submit it to Turn It In. Due for Friday: You will be given 10 minutes on Friday to finish preparing for your presentation. Remember: Feel free to schedule interviews, phone calls, and other meetings pertinent to your story during the block. If you schedule something that precludes you from being in class, please email me with the details. Otherwise, we will be meeting in the Goldrick Computer Lab. Due for Tuesday: Grammar Worksheet 1 - Independent and dependent clauses Due for Thursday: Write a letter (around 200-300 words) breaking up with your imaginary significant other using only simple sentences. Use at least 2 appositive phrases and 2 participial phrases (underline these phrases). Due for Friday: 1. Pick a song to rewrite into simple, complex, and compound sentences. Rewrite the first verse in compound sentences; rewrite the bridge and chorus as simple sentences; rewrite the second verse into complex sentences. (You only have to do 2 verses and a bridge/chorus) 2. Study for Vocabulary Quiz Due for Monday: First draft of Literal Idiom story. Please print this out and bring to class.
